Intermittent hypoxic conditioning with lower oxygen availability may enhances contextual fear conditioning and stress-related inhibitory transmission thereby facilitating disinhibitory dopamine output by the locus coeruleus (LC), a key brain region with bi-directional connection to the hippocampus and hypothalamus.

However the role of intermittent hypoxia in the modulation of stress-related glucocorticoid releases into the amygdala and hypothalamus is not well understood yet.

How do you think hypoxic fear conditioning may contribute to sympathetic activity overload ?
